Guest: Michael Atkinson, CEO of FohBoh.com
Michael is CEO and Founder of FohBoh.com, the leading social network and digital media company for chefs, owners, and the food-service industry.
Michael began at Shearson Lehman Bros. in New York City in 1985. As an investment banker, he participated in over 150 advisory assignments in technology, Internet, food, beverage, restaurants, retail, entertainment and communications. As an entrepreneur, he started several companies in the consumer Internet, social media, restaurant and digital media spaces.
In 2007, he founded fohboh.com, designed to play a vital role in decision-making, deal flow, bench-marking and web analysis for the food-service industry. The site has changed the restaurant industry by creating a new, integrated social-business platform and service model for the food-service industry.
He also runs the Foodservice Social Media Universe #FSMU, the original only foodservice + social media conference.
This was a great interview with some great advice from Michael. Topics we discussed:
– Social media as “about you, for you, and by you,”
– how FohBoh.com meets all three of these needs,
– the really great FohBoh retweet system,
– the hospitality DNA,
– the Victoria Station in Honolulu, circa 1987,
– starting a career as a valet, and
– advice for a young waiter person.
